City University of Macau delegation visits the University of Tokyo to enhance international exchanges and attract talent to Macau

With the aim of gaining insights from internationally renowned universities and fostering stronger connections in international higher education sector, a delegation from the City University of Macau(CityU Macau) recently visited the University of Tokyo in Japan for three days. The visit included an academic staff recruitment fair aimed at showcasing Macau SAR’s “1+4” adequate diversification development strategy and CityU Macau’s talent attraction policy.

During their visit, the delegation explored the campus environment and facilities of the University of Tokyo. They acquired knowledge about the university’s history, academic disciplines, and engaged in in-depth discussions with Takashi Furumura, Director of the Institute of Seismology, and Masataka Kinoshita, Director of the International Affairs Office at Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology. Accompanying the delegation was Wang Yuchen, a researcher from Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology and an external researcher at the University of Tokyo. The meeting facilitated the introduction of CityU Macau’s International summer courses , discussions on deepening cooperation, teacher and student exchange visits, and the exploration of potential future collaborations. Additionally, the delegation had the opportunity to visit the Institute of Seismology to gain a comprehensive understanding of relevant data, causes and effects, including the “Great Kanto Earthquake” a century ago, the “311 Great East Japan Earthquake” in 2011, and the “Noto Peninsula Earthquake” in December 2023. They also familiarized themselves with earthquake detection instruments, earthquake-proof building technology, and materials used in detection equipment.

Furthermore, the delegation organized an academic staff recruitment fair at the University of Tokyo, focusing on fresh PhDs or postdoctoral fellows studying or working at the University of Tokyo and its surrounding areas. The fair provided an in-depth overview of CityU Macau’s strengths, opportunities in teaching, research, and academic development, and detailed information about Macau SAR’s current “1+4” adequate diversification development strategy and talent recruitment programme.

The delegation members consisted of Pro-Rector Chu Te Lin, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business José Paulo Esperança, and Assistant Professor Kong Hoi Io from the Faculty of Data Science.
