CityU Holds “Introduction to Tuberculosis” Workshop

Per statistic of The World Health Organization (WHO), one quarter of the world’s population has infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Tuberculousis is one of the world’s Top 10 deadly infectious diseases. CityU has always paid close attention to the health of our staff members; therefore, to increase staff’s knowledge on Tuberculousis and their awareness on how to prevent and detect early symptoms of tuberculosis, the University has invited Ms. Tou (Specialized Nurse of the Tuberculosis Prevention and Treatment Centre from Macau Health Bureau) to hold the “Introduction to Tuberculosis” workshop on May 11 2022, explaining the causes of tuberculosis, the importance of prevention and treatment to our staff members.

Ms. Tou explained the history, causes, transmission risks and prevention methods of tuberculosis to us in detail, and the information helps to deepen our staff’s the understanding of this disease, its symptoms and detection, transmission route and treatment methods. During the Q&A session, our colleagues were keen to ask questions about the infection risk and how regular body check can prevent such disease. Ms. Tou answered them in detail with her professional knowledge and experience. Some colleagues expressed that Ms. Tou has cleared their doubts about tuberculosis, and this workshop is very useful and informative. They also understood the importance of regular check-ups.

The City University of Macau always upholds the social responsibility and philosophy of “rooting in Macau and serving the Greater Bay Area”. We pay close attention to health of staff members while attaching importance to personnel training and development. We will continue to hold this series of activities and workshops to provide more information and knowledge to our staff in this regards so as to create a health and hygiene campus environment.
