CityU Holds Health Week Activities

To promote healthy living and raise the health awareness of our staff members, City University of Macau organizes “CityU Health Week” activities for all staff in every May. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has changed the patterns of our work, study and interpersonal communication, making people feel anxiety more easily. Therefore, the University held a series of activities with the theme of “Mental Health” from May 22 to 27 this year, including mini-game, stress-relieving gift distribution, mental health self-assessment questionnaire, Pastel Nagomi Art Experience Class, and a workshop on “Emotional Resilience Power in the Epidemic”. The University hopes to increase our colleagues’ awareness of mental health and help them to relieve daily stress by holding this series of activities.

The Health Week kicked off with the Pastel Nagomi Art Experience Class on May 22. The University invited the instructor from the S.K.H. Professional Training Centre to share the drawing methods and techniques of harmonious pastel with our staff, and lead them to draw their unique works, everyone immerse in a relaxing ambience and experience harmony and tranquility throughout the painting process.

The stress-relieving gift distribution was held in the following two days, Human Resources Office (HRO) set up an interactive mini-game booth at the event site. Staff with be rewarded a gift by completing some simple stress-relieving gestures displayed on the game card they picked randomly. The atmosphere was relaxed and happy. In addition, HRO also invited our staff members to fill in the mental health self-assessment questionnaire during the health week, to give our colleagues a better understanding in their mental health status. Those who participated in the questionnaire event could receive an additional delicate gift. Staff participated in this series of activities enthusiastically, many colleagues said they liked the gifts very much.

On May 26, the University arranged a workshop on “Emotional Resilience Power in the Epidemic”, and invited Ms. Agatha Lam, a registered psychotherapist in Macau, to come to the University and explain the way to deal with pressure caused by the epidemic, daily life, interpersonal relationships or work to our staff, Ms. Lam also introduce the existing counseling/mental rehabilitation service resources in Macau.

With professional knowledge and case sharing, participants can clearly understand the types and sources of pressure, how to effectively improve and relieve long-term pressure, as well as to observe and understand their own and others’ psychological state. Colleagues who participated in the activity expressed their gratitude to the University for preparing this series of activities so that they can better understand and pay attention to the mental health of themselves and their relatives and friends, also having the opportunity to learn more about methods to reduce stress, which can help them reduce the stress of daily life and work effectively.

The City University of Macau always upholds the social responsibility and philosophy of “rooting in Macau and serving the Greater Bay Area”. We pay close attention to the physical and mental health of staff members while attaching importance to personnel training and development. We will continue to hold this series of activities and workshops to provide more information and knowledge to our staff in this regards, hoping to reduce the pressure of our staff caused by the epidemic.
