CityU Holds Parenting Education Workshop to Support Staff in Maintaining Family-work Balance

To promote a “Healthy Campus” culture and support staff in achieving work-family balance, the City University of Macau held a “Parenting Education Workshop” on 19 January, 2026 (Monday). The event was the third themed workshop of the “Employee Assistance Program” in the 2025/2026 Academic Year. The University believes that the physical and mental well-being of staff is closely linked to family happiness. By enhancing their parenting knowledge and skills, staff can foster a more harmonious family environment, which in turn helps improve work performance and overall quality of life. Ms. Lei Wai I, currently the Unit in-charge of the Sheng Kung Hui Taipa Youth and Family Integrated Service Centre and a certified instructor of the “6A Character Education TM” program with extensive experience in family services, was invited as the speaker. Through a systematic parenting education framework, the workshop aimed to support university staff in building positive parent-child relationships in their daily lives and strengthening their ability to guide children’s emotions.

The workshop was centered on the 6A positive parenting and addressed many common challenges that parents face in the parenting process, such as “what methods should I use to educate my children?” and “how can I build a good relationship with my children?”. Developed by Dr. Josh McDowell, a renowned American expert in marriage and parenting education, the 6A character education is a parenting framework based on his many years of training experience in these areas. It helps children develop a healthy self-image and sound values, effectively reduces parent-child conflicts, and lays a solid foundation for children’s emotional development and character growth.

During the workshop, the speaker began with simple discussions and gradually introduced the 6A positive parenting. Through case sharing and scenario-based exercises, participants were guided to reflect on how to build a solid “relational foundation” for their children so that they can grow up in an environment where they feel seen and accepted. The workshop then further explored how to strike a balance between love and boundaries, enabling children to develop self-discipline and sound judgment within a clear and secure framework.

The workshop targeted university staff who take part in caring for children aged six or above. Participants gave positive feedback after the event and expressed the hope that the University would organize more similar activities in the future to support staff in balancing work and family life. In fact, the City University of Macau has long been attentive to the diverse needs of its staff in both family and work domains. Through a wide range of themes such as psychological resilience, financial management and parenting education, the University provides comprehensive support to help staff take care of their own physical and mental well-being while growing together with their families, jointly fostering a warm and caring “Healthy Campus” culture at the City University of Macau.
