To enrich the leisure lives of its staff and strengthen inter-departmental ties, City University of Macau (CityU) recently hosted a staff barbecue event, “Sizzle & Mingle,” at a scenic outdoor venue. Designed to use food and interaction as a bridge for deeper connection, the gathering provided a relaxed and natural setting for colleagues to build friendships and enhance team spirit.
The event kicked off with a series of fun ice-breaking games that quickly broke down barriers. Laughter and cheerful interaction filled the space, easing any initial reserve and warming up the atmosphere.

As the grills were fired up, participants divided into teams and collaborated seamlessly—some expertly seasoning and flipping skewers, while others arranged dishes and passed them around. Amid the inviting aroma and rising smoke, the formal dynamics of the workplace gave way to easy, friendly conversation. Colleagues enjoyed their handcrafted meals while sharing stories from work and life, naturally deepening their understanding and rapport.
A highlight of the afternoon was the “Team Sync Challenge” that had groups working in perfect harmony. Quick thinking and seamless cooperation sparked rounds of applause and laughter, lifting the energy to a joyous climax.
As the gathering drew to a close, staff came together for a group photo, capturing the warmth and camaraderie of the occasion. Many expressed how much they valued not only the delicious food but also the valuable opportunity to connect with colleagues from different parts of the university, a true reflection of CityU’s supportive and vibrant campus culture.

Moving forward, CityU remains committed to organizing diverse and engaging activities that foster a closely-knit, warm, and inclusive campus environment, where every staff member can find connection, friendship, and joy amid their professional life.
