CityU Holds Resilience Workshop Cultivating Psychological Recovery

In response to the Macau SAR Government’s “Healthy Campus” initiative, City University of Macau recently launched the “Employee Assistance Program,” dedicated to enhancing the physical and mental well-being as well as the professional growth of its staff members. In addition to offering a variety of counselling and psychological support services, the University held the first event of the program, a “Resilience Workshop,” on October 22. The workshop aimed to help staff alleviate stress, strengthen their psychological capacity, and maintain a stable and positive mindset when facing adversity, thereby improving their ability to adapt to life’s and work’s uncertainties.

The workshop was conducted by counsellors from the Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office. Through an introduction to the core concepts of psychological resilience and the fundamental structure of Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT), participants were guided to recognize and identify common cognitive traps encountered when dealing with stress and setbacks. They also learned to shift existing mindsets to enhance psychological recovery, which enables greater adaptability, quicker emotional restoration after adversity, and the maintenance of motivation and confidence when facing challenges. Conducted in an interactive and engaging format combining sharing and scenario simulations, the workshop featured mindfulness practices and a “stress balloon” activity, encouraging participants to actively engage and share personal experiences and challenges in a lively and supportive atmosphere.

City University of Macau hopes that this workshop will strengthen staff awareness of self-care, improve peer support networks, and inject new momentum into building a healthier and more supportive work environment. Moving forward, the University will continue to organize diverse mental health initiatives, combining professional and community resources to assist staff in addressing the challenges of daily life and work, thereby further promoting the development of a healthy campus culture.
