CityU Hosts Seminar on “Gender Equality and Harmonious Workplace” to Deepen Campus Inclusive Culture

Gender equality is not only a basic human right, but also an important part of promoting sustainable development and achieving a peaceful society. Committed to promoting gender equality, City University of Macau held a special seminar on “Gender Equality and Harmonious Workplace” on July 9, 2025, aiming to deepen staff members’ understanding of gender issues and build a more inclusive campus environment. The seminar invited a representative from the Community Service Coordination Division of the Social Welfare Bureau as the keynote speaker, attracting enthusiastic participation from University leaders, department heads and staff members.

Centered on the theme of “Gender Equality and Harmonious Workplace” this seminar provided an in-depth interpretation of the spirit of international conventions on gender equality and women’s development. Combining local workplace cases in Macau, it analyzed core issues such as gender stereotypes, equal opportunities, and work-life balance. The speaker specifically addressed the characteristics of the education sector, sharing how to implement gender equality principles in curriculum design, teacher-student interaction, and office environments. Concrete measures such as gender sensitivity training and family-friendly policies were introduced to help staff members transform concepts into actions and build a workplace ecosystem free from gender discrimination.

The seminar featured an interactive discussion session where staff members actively raised questions on topics like the specific application of gender equality policies on campus and support measures for balancing family and career. The speaker responded to the queries by integrating practical experience from the Social Welfare Bureau, creating a lively atmosphere. Participants noted that the seminar not only deepened their understanding of gender equality concepts but also provided practical skills such as use of gender-neutral language and resolution of workplace gender conflicts, offering direct guidance for daily teaching, management and administrative work.

Upholding the social responsibility and educational philosophy of serving Macao and integrating into the Greater Bay Area, City University of Macau regards gender equality as a cornerstone of campus culture construction. As a key component of the gender education and training system, this seminar not only strengthened staff members’ gender equality awareness but also provided theoretical and practical support for building an inclusive and friendly campus environment. In the future, the University will continue to collaborate with professional institutions such as the Social Welfare Bureau to launch a series of activities, promoting the deep integration of gender equality concepts into all aspects of campus life and contributing to a more equitable and inclusive higher education environment.
