City University of Macau has always prioritized the physical and mental well-being and work-life balance of its staff members. To actively promote the concept of healthy living and enhance health awareness, the University organized its annual Health Week Series Event from May 26 to 29, featuring a health promotion booth, Chronic Disease Prevention and Management Seminar, Healthy Eating Seminar, and Office Exercise Promotion Program, which garnered enthusiastic participation from staff members.
Health Promotion Booth: Interactive Engagement for Healthy Lifestyle
The first two days of the event saw a lively health promotion booth, where interactive quiz games on health knowledge were held. Staff members learned practical tips on nutrition pairing and balanced diets through fun interactions and received fresh fruits and health-themed gifts. The Human Resources Office specially designed a “Daily Vegetable and Fruit” campaign to encourage the habit of including more fruits and vegetables into their daily diet. Many colleagues noted that learning about dietary health through quizzes was both enjoyable and memorable.



Chronic Disease Prevention and Management Seminar: Professional Insights to Strengthen Health Defenses
In the special Seminar on “Prevention and Management of Chronic Diseases,” Dr. Ieong, representative of from the Health Bureau provided detailed explanations of the pathogenesis, early warning signs, and daily conditioning methods for common chronic illnesses such as hypertension and diabetes, tailored to Macao’s climatic characteristics and dietary habits. Dr. Ieong emphasized that “prevention is better than cure,” recommending regular health check-ups and moderate exercise for staff members. Participants actively asked questions, particularly about chronic disease prevention strategies for office workers, and experts provided personalized advice.



Healthy Eating Seminar: Scientific Nutrition for a Vibrant Life
The healthy Eating Seminar invited Dr. Ng from Centro Médico Integrado Caremed to discuss topics such as healthy diets and low-salt, low-sodium diets, analyzing the medicinal values and compatibility taboos of common ingredients. Dr. Ng introduced how to pair diets according to seasonal changes to supplement essential nutrients and shared recipes for soups using traditional Chinese medicinal materials to clear heat, detoxify, and invigorate the spleen and stomach, helping staff members quickly master the principles of soup pairing. Many colleagues expressed their intention to adjust their dietary patterns based on the seminar’s recommendations.



Office Exercise Promotion Program: Easy Exercise to Protect Body Functions
Aiming to address neck and shoulder pain caused by prolonged sitting, Health Week launched an office micro-exercise initiative, encouraging staff members to adopt exercise habits using fragmented time. Many colleagues reported that simple exercises significantly relieved fatigue and planned to practice them daily.
City University of Macau has always placed great importance on the health of staff members. This Health Week series not only disseminated scientific health concepts but also created a platform for communication and interaction. In the future, the University will continue to promote the construction of a “healthy campus,” launching more diverse health promotion initiatives to help staff members achieve physical and mental balance amid busy work and create a vibrant campus together.
