Vice Rector Zhou Wanlei leads delegation to visit renowned universities in Australia, fostering talent exchanges and international cooperation

In order to strengthen connections and cooperation in international higher education, expand talent exchanges, and attract outstanding academics, Prof. Zhou Wanlei, vice rector of City University of Macau (CityU) led a delegation to visit four leading universities in Australia, including the University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney, University of New South Wales, and Macquarie University. Pro-Rectors Wicky So Kam Hung and Vince Chu Te Lin accompanied the visit.

Visit to University of Technology Sydney (UTS)

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is known for its cutting-edge position in technological advancement and applied education, and is a university with modern focus and a drive for innovation. During the visit, the delegation was warmly received by Provost and Senior Vice President Vicki Chen and Pro Vice-Chancellor Leo Mian Liu. The two sides signed agreements on student exchanges and credit recognition, and held in-depth discussions on key topics such as talent introduction, campus construction, and international summer programs. After the meeting, CityU delegation visited the campus facilities, including the library, classrooms, student activity spaces, restaurants, and sports facilities, and also experienced the university’s laboratory and its advanced equipment. In addition, the delegation held a recruitment seminar at the university, introducing over forty doctoral students and post-doctoral scholars to Macao’s talent recruitment policies, which was warmly welcomed.


Visit to University of New South Wales (UNSW)

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is a world-leading research university, known as the “MIT of the Southern Hemisphere,” and is home to the largest engineering college in Australia. During the visit, the delegation visited the teaching facilities, library, student spaces, and auditoriums, and learned about the university’s development strategies, internationalization, and achievements in global rankings.


Visit to University of Sydney (USYD)

The University of Sydney, founded in 1850, is the oldest university in Australia and has ranked among the top universities in the world. During the visit to the University of Sydney, the delegation gained a detailed understanding of the campus development and planning, and visited several newly completed buildings, laboratories, and museums.


Visit to Macquarie University (MQ)

Macquarie University is known for its excellent academic achievements and high-quality research foundings, and has a strong international reputation in fields such as applied finance, actuarial studies, accounting, and international trade. During the visit, the delegation was warmly received by Pro Vice-Chancellor Lee-ann Norris. The two sides had in-depth discussions on university development, agreeing to jointly promote cooperation projects such as credit recognition and student exchange. After the meeting, the delegation visited the Macquarie University Incubator, where Director Incubation and Entrepreneurship Melissa Ryan, gave an overview of the center’s operations, entrepreneurship projects, and selection for incubating companies. In addition, the delegation also visited student dormitories and newly completed schools, and held a seminar for dozens of doctoral students and post-doctoral scholars, introducing Macao’s talent recruitment policies and CityU’s job opportunities.

This trip to Australia not only laid a solid foundation for the exchange and cooperation between City University of Macau and leading universities, but also injected new vitality into the future development of the university. CityU will continue to leverage its strengths and strive for better development in line with its vision of “Macao Characteristics, China Soul, Global Vision.” The university is committed to adhering to the SAR government’s administrative principles of “letting Macao thrive through education” and “building Macao with talented people,” and will shoulder its social responsibilities while making greater contributions to the higher education in the region.

Other members of the delegation included Jacky Li Xi, executive associate dean of the Faculty of International Tourism and Management, Andy Liu Wenjian, associate dean of the Faculty of Data Science, Sheng Jian, head of the Research Management Office, and Lewis Chao Chan Chong, head of the Student Affairs Office.
